Billy Corgan

Dear Billy Corgan,

We have had the same thoughts in the same week. Although yours are way more developed than mine you have pretty much written exactly what I was thinking!

Love Mel. x

P.S I doubt Billy's thoughts were spurred on by finishing the first season of Fringe. That's what brought it on for me. Definitely not as educated or well read. I just watch television.

PUNISHERZ UPDATE

So. It's been a while since there was any Punisherz news.

We had a rehearsal about 6 weeks ago in the gallery, the most echo-ridden room in the world. Our first in 18 months or so. It will probably be the last in the gallery though because i'm opening the gallery as a gallery in November. (I will have a blog for that so that's exciting!)

I wrote a song about fake lesbians and how much I hate them. This was inspired after I had been to Lily Allen the night before and was standing with a group of non-disclosed Australian reality TV wannabes saying how much they wanted to "have sex with Lily".

$100000000000000000000 bucks they would run away from Lily if they had to do anything a true lesbian would do in the bedroom!

Kissing a girl doesnt make you a lesbian!!

Look, i'm not a lesbian - and I appreciate the gay community, but I hate fake lezo's who do it for attention ok!

So come to the next Punisherz show if there is one (maybe Boogie next year I hear) to see more of this fake lezo rant.

Floria Sigismondi

If you know me, you know that I LOVE Floria Sigismondi. Today while I was ordering some of her books for my gallery I saw this video for the first time. I'm a few months too late, but it's absolutely exquisite all the same.

Floria teamed up with M.A.C once again, this time for their Hello Kitty collection.

I need to meet this woman. Pronto.

JUST SO YOU CAN LEARN FROM ME....

Earlier this year I was in NYC for a while, and I sublet an apartment via Craigslist on the cnr of Thompson and Prince. It was perfect for my stay! It was 1 o f about 5 apartments I looked at and I met the guy who was leasing it and he was kind and nice & going to volunteer in Africa, which is why he was subletting.

ANYWAY. All went well during the stay, there were a few problems and each time there was (like the noisy heater) I rung him or emailed him straight away and let him know. So we agreed that I would give him a deposit for my stay and get it returned when I handed back the keys.

Those of you who know me, know that my house is my home, and I take the best care of my things and my house, and I did the exact same for his place.

The day I returned from Australia he wrote me: "We have a problem, yesterday in the afternoon I went to take a shower and while the water was running, the water was not draining from the tub, did this happen before, was it severely clogged, because when I left it I had just snaked it myself, there is still water in the tub and its not draining there is clumps of stuff coming out of the drain... kinda gross, I had to call the plumber, if this is a building problem then we are good, but if this is something I have to pay for, if the plumber deems it recent, then i will have to take it out of your deposit. I will know by tomorrow morning"

To cut a LONG story short we exchanged a few emails and phone calls and he was constantly brushing me off. FINALLY after 3 months, I have sent him this email in hope to appeal to hopefully a human being inside of him:

Dear XXXXX,

I am just writing to say how disappointed I am with your lack of communication and fairness in the situation of holding my deposit for subletting your apartment in April 2009 of this year. I thought you were a very nice and kind person when we met, and we also had good communication throughout my stay as I told you about ANY problem I had in your apartment at the time of the problem’s occurrence. I took utmost care of your place as if it were my own and would have told you straight away if the drain had been a problem, and it was not.

The last communication we had was about 4 weeks ago on the phone and at that time you told me your were in the midst of “drafting an email to me to tell me what has happened.” In any situation, personal or business I think waiting 4 weeks patiently for a legitimate reason as to why my $1050USD has been withheld from me is a fair enough time to wait!

I have had this distinct situation investigated to see what rights I have and in each case have been told it is a “building problem and responsibility, not the person who has sub-letted the apartment”. This is because its part of the building, and a problem based on age and time, something that I cannot be held responsible for. In most cases I was also told the super would take care of it as part of your own building costs as well!

In finding this information out and going back on my original emails to you when you claimed that you would hold on to my deposit because of the drainage problem, I replied back and was very fair in saying that “I would pay my portion of drain receipt for the amount of time I had been staying in your apartment divided by the entire time you had been there” – therefore splitting the costs. I shouldn’t even have to offer to do this, but you still have not responded at all to this offer.

If you have gone and spent my money I would rather you just tell me, than give me an absolute non-reason to hold my deposit.

I really misjudged this entire situation and you have really made me lose my trust and faith in humanity and I would not have expected this from a person who was going to volunteer in Africa.

I would appreciate a response within a week of this email, if not I will continue to follow up until I have heard your reasoning as I am not an unreasonable person.

Kind Regards,

Mel

----------

Look if I wanted to be a total bitch which I could be, I would post his name everywhere and hand out his twitter, blog, facebook & myspace details for everyone to stalk and de-face but i'm not going to do that. I just want people to be aware of what can happen. Here are some easy guidlines for craigslist.

1. USE CRAIGSLIST - IT IS AN AWESOME TOOL JUST BEWARE
2. STAY WITH A FRIEND OR @ A HOTEL WHILST LOOKING FOR A PLACE OFF CRAIGSLIST FIRST SO YOU CAN ACTUALLY MEET THE PERSON AND GO CHECK THE PLACE OUT!!!!
3. GET THE KEYS FIRST AND EXCHANGE CASH ON THE SPOT IF POSSIBLE
4. IF A DEPOSIT IS DISCUSSED TRY PUT IT IN A TRUST ACCOUNT NOT THEIR ACCOUNT!
5. ALWAYS HAVE GOOD COMMUNICATION WITH EACH OTHER
6. JUST BE A REAL GENUINE PERSON NOT A CUNT. (both parties)

thank you xxx

MASTERCHEF!

After watching Masterchef tonight I got a real craving to make a little chocolate pudding thing, like the one they whipped up for the wedding.

Without really knowing a recipe (and masterchef doesn't go through the cooking stages in the show), I prayed that I would have everything I thought I needed in my house, as it is a cold rainy night and I didn't feel like venturing outside!

Anyway - So I looked.... and all I had was :
1. Wholemeal Flour
2. Less than a tablespoon of vegan butter
3. Cocoa
4. Vanilla Essence
5. 1 Egg
6. Sugar

So I shoved this all in a bowl and did my secret fork whisk

Put them into 2 x soya sauce dishes
Found 2 more secret ingredients in the freezer....

RASPBERRIES (zapped in the microwave for 30 seconds with sugar and vanilla essence)

ICE CREAM!

In 30 minutes I was plating up and spooning hot delicious chocolate, with sweet raspberries and ice cream into my mouth.

WOW. If you were my boyfriend you would love me right?

P.S I
don't have a boyfriend, why not?

EVEN IF I HAD A GUN I COULDN'T USE IT

So en route to Brisbane this past weekend, Sydney airport security saw my UNEARTHEN necklace. I love this piece of jewellery and wear it every single day.

It was an unusually quiet Saturday afternoon at the aiport, so quiet that our original flight got cancelled and they put us on a later flight.

Anyway so security decided that I couldnt go on board with my necklace because it is in the "shape of a bullet". After trying to explain to them numerous times that it was infact an EMPTY SHELL CASING with Aqua Aura Quartz (very visable), they still wouldn't let me through with the necklace.

I had to check my handbag and put it through luggage! I don't know what they thought I could do with an empty shell-casing..... I've been through security airport check-points in LA, NYC, SYDNEY, MELBOURNE, SYDNEY again with it on and it doesnt even beep through the metal detector!

Talk about security having MAJOR Saturday afternoon boredom, I guess everyone has to prove why they still exist in their jobs these days too....It was entirely frustrating, and even the check-in girl at VIRGIN said that they must have been bored that day for me to have to check it in!!

P.S Got back to Sydney through Brisbane security FINE with it on.

Airports = insignificance....

So i'm travelling for work at the moment, and in the past few weeks spent alot of time in airports. They suck, and I have refused to go into the lounges....it's more interesting people watching out here in the wild.

I dont know about you, but in an airport I think I feel like the most insignificant person in the world. Once you check in you go through the cog wheels of security and a motion wherby everyone is stripped down to your core (not literally, although shoes and jackets come off). Everyone has to do this, no one is immune. I take one look around and everyone seems to have the same feeling, face, emotion.

Is this where everyone enters the same playing field - at the security check point?

...Not that i'm a person of significance to begin with, but I guess what i'm trying to say is that I just feel like one tiny piece in this huge puzzle that makes up the world. I hate that. I like to feel like i'm at least trying to do something.

I'm collecting my thoughts for cultural common denominators.... stay tuned.
